Laos: Opening Ceremony of a Hospital Maintenance Workshop at Luang Prabang

Published Thursday February 28 2013

Joined by the Vice Minister of Health of Laos, local authorities and some hundred guests, Mr. Marc Franck, Head of the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Office (Hanoi) opened a maintenance workshop at Luang Prabang’s provincial hospital on 28 February 2013.

The Vice Minister warmly thanked the Luxembourg Government for its ongoing support of Laos’ health sector. The construction of the maintenance workshop was financed with a substantial grant of Luxembourg’s bilateral Health Sector Support Program (Lao/017). While the workshop is well equipped for electrical and plumbing repairs, carpentry and welding, a specialised room for mending high-tech medical equipment is promised to perform preventive maintenance and provide skills to local maintenance personnel. The provision of a mobile maintenance vehicle to service district hospitals and health centres in northern Laos further adds to the important role the workshop is due to play within Luang Prabang’s healthcare technology infrastructure. As the new facilities will improve medical equipment maintenance, the construction of the workship demonstrates once more the excellent development cooperation between Laos and Luxembourg.
