Published Tuesday January 28 2014

Following its presence at the First Myanmar Development Cooperation Forum in January 2013, Luxembourg was once more invited to the Second Myanmar Development Cooperation Forum that took place in Nay Pyi Taw on 27 and 28 January 2014. The MDCF was inaugurated by President Thein Sein who stressed the will of the Myanmar government to pursue its economic and political reform agenda. The Forum was attended by high ranking members of the Myanmar government and ministries as well as foreign diplomats, UN organisations and international NGOs. Dr Kan Zaw, the Minister for National Planning and Development, said thanks for the excellent cooperation with development partners since the first MDCF and expressed the hope that an increasingly productive cooperation will help Myanmar to reach its ambitious goal of more than 8% GDP growth.

Luxembourg was represented by the Embassy in Bangkok, the Development Cooperation Office in Hanoi and DC headquarters. Luxembourg’s first program of development cooperation in the field of tourism training (MYA 001) is due to start during the first half of 2014. A second cooperation program in the area of rural development in Eastern Shan state is currently undergoing preparation.
