On September 25, 2013, Ambassador Marc Thill presented to His Excellency the President U Thein Sein the Letters of credence by which His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri appointed him as the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The ceremony took place in the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw, in the presence of H.E.U Soe Maung, Minister in the President’s Office, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E U Thant Kyaw.

Luxembourg and Myanmar formally established diplomatic relations on July 31, 2012. It is actively supporting the political and economic reform process since it was launched by the President and his government and encourages them to pursue it. Ambassador Thill also had talks with H.E. U Soe Thein, Minister in the President’s Office, who visited Luxembourg on March 23 and 24, 2013, and H.E. U Htay Aung, Minister of Hotels and Tourism.
