Laos - Approval of a bilateral tax treaty by the Luxembourg Parliament
On 14 June 2013, the Luxembourg Parliament voted a law approving the conclusion of several tax treaties, including the agreement between the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and on capital. This agreement was signed in Vientiane on 4 November 2012 by Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker and by Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong and is now in the process of approval by the Laotian authorities.
Luxembourg has currently a tax treaty network covering over sixty countries while tax treaties with a two dozen more countries are pending. This agreement is the first bilateral tax treaty signed by the Lao People's Democratic Republic with a Member State of the EU. The agreement for the avoidance of double taxation has been published in the Mémorial A, no. 144 of 4 July 2013, pages 1696 and 1779-1792.
