Luxembourg participates in the ASEAN Regional Forum Disaster Relief Exercise (ARF DiREx) 2013

Under the flag of the European Commission, Luxembourg will participate in the ASEAN Regional Forum Disaster Relief Exercise (ARF DiREx) 2013 which will be held in Cha-am, Phetburi Province, Thailand from 7 to 11 May 2013. The ARF DiREx is a collaboration of efforts between civilian authorities and the military in organizing a large scale disaster relief exercise. The objective of the 2013 exercise is to advance and build capacity of ARF members in the civil-military coordination in response to disasters, such as earthquakes and tsunamis.  The ARF DiREx 2013, with Thailand and the Republic of Korea as co-chairs, will have the participation of over 26 countries, one regional grouping and regional and international organizations such as the ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre), the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).Luxembourg will participate with a team from the National Civil Protection and with the equipment from emergeny.lu, a satellite based telecommunication platform to be deployed in emergency situations worldwide.
