Luxembourg supports responsible tourism in provinces of Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue, Vietnam

Publié le jeudi 24 avril 2014

On 24th of April, the joint ILO and UNESCO project “Sustainable and Responsible Tourism in Central Viet Nam” has been official launched. With support from the government of Luxembourg, the two organizations will work with provincial authorities in Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue to promote community based tourism. The project builds on a previous successful intervention which supported the establishment of community based tourism in the three villages of Dhroong, Bho Hoong and My Son through establishing village groups producing high quality handicrafts, developing homestays and providing training to villagers to enable them to better interact with tourists. To assure benefits for the whole community, part of the tourism revenues will be allocated to a village development fund. At the same time close cooperation with private sector operators and authorities assured increasing awareness of community based tourism and created necessary linkages between rural areas and tourism markets. While continuing to promote the role of communities in tourism, the second phase of the project will create new partnerships with Thua Thien Hue province, UNESCO but also with other Luxembourg financed bilateral projects such as the Climate Adaptive Local Development and Innovation Project which targets several costal districts in Thua Thien Hue province and is implemented by LuxDev.
