Thailand - Visit of the Embassy to the Suvannimit Foundation, the Mae Tao Clinic and associated Migrant Education Centers

Publié le jeudi 06 février 2014

Since 2010, Luxembourg has given support to the Mae Tao Clinic and associated Learning Centers for migrant children from Myanmar through the Suvannimit Foundation based in Mae Sot (Tak Province). The support has either come from the emergency fund of the Ministry’s Development Cooperation Division or from the Micro-Project Fund of the Embassy in Bangkok. In 2011 and 2013, emergency food assistance and financial aid were provided to overcome crisis situations faced by migrant schools and their boarding facilities. The micro-projects of the Embassy have allowed the construction of award-winning boarding houses, the supply of dry food to boarding houses, the acquisition of hygiene and sleeping equipment and, presently, ensure support to educational activities undertaken by migrant teacher associations in cooperation with the Mae Tao Clinic. The Ambassador of Luxembourg met Dr Cynthia Maung, founder of Mae Tao Clinic, who provided an update on the current challenges and the new hospital project. The program of the visit focused on schools and teaching facilities sustained by Luxembourg.
