Launch of a new rural development project in Laos
The new Luxembourg funded rural development project implemented by Department of Planning and Investment of Khammouane province and LuxDev was launched on July 24 in Thakek. In addition to improving the capacity of local authorities to manage and coordinate aid projects in their province, the project will also strengthen the capacity for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating at provincial, district and village level. This will be supported by the construction of small infrastructure and the establishment of village development funds which will provide hands on experience for the different administrations in formulating and putting into practise local development plans. The initiative builds on previous experiences of Luxembourg development cooperation in neighbouring Bolikhamxay province and complements activities in Khammouane province implemented under two further projects supported by Luxembourg which aim at improving health services and the management of development assistance projects.
