Published Saturday October 13 2012

Luc Frieden, Luxembourg Minister of Finance, was elected on Friday as the next President of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

Minister Frieden's election came at the opening of the annual meetings of the two international institutions in Tokyo. In this capacity, he will chair the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington in 2013. It is a prestigious honour allowing Luc Frieden to represent Luxembourg in the world's two most important international financial institutions, especially due to their participation in the management of the eurozone crisis.

Minister Frieden had also a meeting with the Minister of Finance of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, in order to have an exchange of views on the challenges facing financial markets in the current economic situation and strengthen bilateral relations.
