Training of Consular Agents of Luxembourg Diplomatic Missions

Published Wednesday June 05 2019

For the first time, a training initiated by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs brought together a representative of consular affairs from almost every diplomatic mission, with 24 participants, a record number, from 13 to 17 May in Luxembourg, in the Mansfeld building. The guests were received by Christian Bever, Director of Consular Affairs and International Relations, and Mario Wiesen, Head of Passport, Visa and Legalization Office.

Each day was an opportunity to discover what's new and look at current practices in the areas of visas, passports, consular assistance, false document detection, immigration, archiving and other procedures. A cordial and informative exchange took place between the participants and the speakers, reminding everyone that it is unity that makes progress, and an openness essential to adapt to changes.

The highlight of the training was a visit to the Schengen Museum, followed by a visit to the cellars of the Henri Ruppert estate in Schengen. The next day, the consular agents were able to visit the different departments of the passport, visa and legalization office in order to meet the Luxembourg colleagues as closely as possible.

Many participants had the opportunity to know their colleagues from other missions for the first time, and to enjoy a unique sharing on the advice of some and the recommendations of others. Some of them have also discovered a wonderful city, Luxembourg, and a green country for a relatively cool May under a sunny azure sky.

It was also an opportunity to send a consular officer from our embassy to attend the training for the first time since its establishment in Thailand.
