Second passport

In principle, it is not permitted to hold many passports. However, a second passport (5-year costing €50) may be issued in two situations after following a favorable opinion of the Passport Office:

1/ For close business-related trips. Your passport may be hold during a period of time when you have to travel.

2/ For incompatible destinations. Some countries do not allow entry on their territory when people are stayed in specific countries. When a passport has a previous visa by not permitting a new trip, it is authorized to get a second passport.

Prior authorization from the Passport Office

The authorization from the Passport Office is mandatory before coming to the Embassy. In this regard, applicants shall justify their second passport application to the Embassy by attaching supporting documents either by mail or by email.


Applicants are advised to check their personal data (legal address, marital status, etc.) in order to correspond to those in the National Registry. In this respect, applicants can request any change, if relevant, at , by sending adequate documents even before coming to the Embassy.


Required documents

  • Current passport and/or second passport + copy of the data page
  • Proof of payment for the passport by bank transfer to “Bureau des passeports, visas et légalisations”*
  • One recent photograph, mouth closed as displayed below. Any non-standard photograph will be rejected

Delivery times
The Foreign and European Affairs Ministry organizes a mailing from Luxembourg to the Embassy in Bangkok every three or four weeks only. Passports may be picked up by applicants or by a trustworthy person at the Embassy. Alternatively, passports may be picked up at the Passport Office in Luxembourg by a designated representative (and the mandate letter as well as the passport application receipt shall be presented).

Picking up passports
Holders of a new passport will be advised, by the Embassy, to pick up their passport either by email or by phone call. If the Embassy is unable to contact them, the latter should reach us, knowing that any passport may be held no more than 6 months from the delivery date by the legal authority. In addition, holders are required to come in person, without duly justified reason, in order to pick up their new passport, along with their previous travel document and their application receipt. Passports cancellation
Passports will be physically cancelled when picking up new ones, unless otherwise stipulated by the Embassy. Cancelled passports will be handed over on request. If the Embassy has agreed that passport holders cancel their previous travel document by themselves, it is should be done upon receiving the new one and by sending a proof by email to the Embassy.
