Launch of the Luxembourg candidacy to the Human Rights Council (2022-2024)

On the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, Luxembourg has formally launched its campaign for a member seat at the Human Rights Council for the 2022-2024 term. The election will take place in October 2021.

A long-standing commitment to multilateralism and human rights

The promotion and protection of human rights is a priority for the Government of Luxembourg, both domestically and in the implementation of its foreign policy. During the press conference on December 10th, Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, has presented Luxembourg's four human rights priorities:

  1. The rule of law, civic space and human rights defenders and the fight against impunity
  2. Sustainable development and climate action based on human rights
  3. Gender equality and the fight against all forms of discrimination
  4. The protection and promotion of the rights of the child

You will find more information on Luxembourg's candidature, priorities and pledges in the area of human rights in the brochure (currently available in English and French) as well as regular updates on the dedicated webpage of the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
