Burma Spring : poetry and photography book launch and artist talk

The Embassy of Luxembourg had the pleasure to welcome a full house at SEA-Junction on 29 November for the presentation of the poetry and photography collection Burma Spring and artist talk with co-editor and photographer Mayco Naing as well as Thai performance artist Kawita Vatanajyankur.

Marie-Pierre Mol from the Intersections Gallery in Singapore moderated this truly heartfelt conversation, beaming with energy and creativity. The artists shared their common passion for artistic expression as a testament of human capabilities in general and of female resilience in particular. Powerful work that is integral to a vibrant, inclusive and safe society.

Burma Spring presents 14 Burmese and Rohingya poets and 6 photographers, all exiled, imprisoned or killed since the February 2021 military coup. Their works are testimonies of their shock, anger and determination.

This event follows the group exhibition “Women in resistance” that took place at the initiative of the Institut français in Luxembourg in January this year, with the participation, amongst others, of Mayco Naing. The publication of Burma Spring is a continuation of that important work, supported by the Embassy of Luxembourg in Bangkok.
